Film AuditionsIn the West End of Vancouver, 17-year-old Claire’s bedroom is a tiny oasis of order in an apartment jam-packed with old newspapers, bags of outgrown clothing, and boxes of broken electronics. Her mother, Frances (45), is a hoarder. In her room, Claire retreats from the world to draw one of her own making in beautiful, comic-style illustrations. When Claire discovers that Frances has started to take over Claire’s closet too, Claire suffers a panic attack. Claire must find a new private space. Fortuitously she happens upon the building’s nosy, 70-year-old superintendent, Howard, in a compromising position and tries to manipulate him into giving her an empty storage locker. But when her plan backfires, she discovers that Howard also has a secret he’s hiding behind closed doors. Through sharing their secrets, Claire and Howard find that each holds the key to the other’s happiness.
